Pickup (California 22R)

  1. Start engine. Increase engine speed to 2000 RPM. Disconnect Electronic Air Control Valve (EACV) and Electronic Bleed Air Control Valve (EBCV). See Figure or Figure.
  2. Wait a few seconds. Reconnect EBCV connector. Engine speed should immediately drop approximately 300 RPM. Disconnect vacuum hose from vacuum switch No. 2 and plug hose end.
  3. Check that engine speed returns to 2000 RPM after a few seconds. Reconnect vacuum hose and connectors. If carburetor feedback system does not function as described, test individual system components.
  4. Check oxygen sensor, coolant temperature sensor, electronic air control valve, electronic bleed air control valve, vacuum switches, vehicle speed sensor, and RPM signal ("Ne" terminal on ignitor). Also check Emission Control Computer wiring and ground connection.
