System Test: Pickup

  1. Check hoses and tubes for cracks, kinks, damage, or loose connections. Disconnect Air Suction (AS) hose from Electronic Air Control Valve (EACV). See Fig 1.
  2. Check cold system operation. Ensure coolant temperature is less than 43°F (6°C). Check for air bubbling noise from EACV.
  3. When engine temperature is above 64°F (18°C), check heavy load operation. Disconnect vacuum hose from No. 2 vacuum switch and plug hose end. Check that air bubbling noise is not heard from EACV.
  4. Warm engine to 64-111°F (18-44°C). Increase engine speed to 1390 RPM and check for air bubbling noise from EACV.
  5. When engine temperature is above 131°F (55°C) check hot system operation. Increase engine speed to 1390 RPM and check for intermittent bubbling noise from EACV.
  6. Reduce engine to idle. Check idle operation. With engine speed less than 1000 RPM, check that a bubbling noise can be heard from EACV. Reconnect AS hose to EACV after testing air suction system.
