Check Engine Light Functional Test
- The "CHECK ENGINE" warning light should come ON when the ignition switch is ON and the engine is not running. See Fig 1 for location. If the light does not come on, a fault exists. See the CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL NOT COME ON procedure (below) to troubleshoot.
- When the engine is started, the "CHECK ENGINE" warning light should go out. If so, the "CHECK ENGINE" light is operating properly.
- If the light remains on, the diagnostic system has detected a malfunction or abnormality in the system. See the CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYS ON procedure (below) to troubleshoot.
