Oxygen (O2) Sensor (Tercel)

Oxygen sensor is a Zirconia/Platinum-tipped sensor installed in the exhaust system. Sensor monitors oxygen content of exhaust gases. Sensor generates a low voltage signal (.1-1.0 volt) when heated in the presence of oxygen. ECU monitors signal line from oxygen sensor and controls Electronic Air Bleed Control Valve (EBCV) based upon changes in this signal.

When oxygen content of exhaust gas is low, a high (up to 1.0 volt) voltage signal is generated. When oxygen content of exhaust gas is high, a low (as low as .1 volt) voltage signal is generated by sensor.
