Ignition System: Distributor: Installation

  1. Coat new "O" ring with oil and install onto distributor housing. Ensure cylinder No. 1 is at TDC. If it is not, turn crankshaft until cylinder No. 1 is on compression stroke and timing mark aligns with TDC mark on timing case cover.
  2. Position slot of exhaust camshaft vertically. See Figure. Align cutout marks of distributor drive coupling with line on distributor housing. See Figure.
  3. Install distributor, aligning distributor flange mounting hole with bolt hole on cylinder head. Install distributor hold-down bolt. Install spark plug wires to distributor cap. Connect distributor electrical connector.
  4. Connect negative battery cable. Set ignition timing. Tighten distributor hold-down bolts to 14 ft. lbs. (19 N.m).
