Removal & Installation

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove gas cap from filler tube to relieve fuel tank pressure. Remove second seats, scuff plate, side garnish, step plate and floor mats. Remove service hole cover in luggage compartment area. Release fuel pressure at filter. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE. Remove fuel pump outlet hose union bolt, and disconnect fuel pump hoses. Remove screws securing fuel pump bracket assembly to fuel tank. Remove fuel pump bracket assembly.
  2. Disconnect 2 nuts securing fuel pump wires to fuel pump, and remove wires. Pull lower end of fuel pump (with filter) from bracket. Disconnect fuel hose from pump, and remove fuel pump. To install, reverse removal procedure. Connect negative battery cable and check for fuel leaks. See CHECKING FOR FUEL LEAKS. Tighten fuel pump bracket retaining screw to 35 INCH lbs. (3.9 N.m). Tighten fuel pump outlet hose union bolt to 22 ft. lbs. (30 N.m). Tighten second seat mounting bolts to 29 ft. lbs. (39 N.m).
