Ignition System: Distributor: Installation

  1. Remove 2 engine undercovers and right engine hood side panel. Rotate crankshaft clockwise to set cylinder No. 1 to TDC of compression stroke. Verify timing mark on crankshaft pulley aligns with "0" mark on No. 1 belt cover. Turn crankshaft clockwise, and position intake camshaft slot vertically. See Fig 2. Coat NEW "O" ring with oil and install onto distributor housing.
  2. Align cut-out portion of distributor drive coupling with groove on distributor housing. See Fig 1. Connect distributor electrical connector. Install distributor, aligning flange hole(s) with bolt hole(s) on cylinder head. Install hold-down bolt(s). Connect negative battery cable.
  3. Install spark plug wires. Install air intake hose if removed. Set ignition timing. Tighten distributor hold-down bolt(s) to 29 ft. lbs. (39 N.m).
