Ignition System: Distributor: Removal

  1. Record spark plug wire locations, and disconnect wires from distributor cap. Disconnect distributor electrical connector. Remove 2 ventilation hoses. Remove distributor cap and dust-proof packing ring. Verify timing mark on crankshaft pulley is aligned with "0" mark on timing chain case. If necessary to bring cylinder No. 1 to TDC, install a 12 x 1.25 mm nut and bolt into end of crankshaft. Turn crankshaft until cylinder No. 1 is on compression stroke and timing mark aligns with TDC mark on timing case cover.
  2. Ensure distributor rotor points toward direction shown. See Figure. If rotor is not as shown, turn crankshaft pulley one complete revolution. Remove distributor hold-down bolts. Remove distributor. Remove "O" ring from distributor housing and discard.
