Fuel Injectors & Fuel Rails: Installation
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1994 Toyota Paseo. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Install NEW grommet to each injector. Apply a light coat of gasoline to NEW "O" ring and install onto injector. Install injectors to fuel rail. Turn injector from left to right while pushing inward until injector bottoms securely into fuel rail. See Fig 1.
- Install 4 NEW injector insulators and 2 fuel rail mounting spacers into positions on cylinder head. Install 2 mounting spacers with plastic end toward fuel rail. Install fuel rail/injector assembly into position on cylinder head. Snug tighten mounting bolts holding fuel rail to cylinder head.
- Verify injectors rotate smoothly side-to-side. Ensure each injector electrical connector is positioned upward, facing camshaft cover. If injectors do not rotate smoothly, remove injector and replace damaged "O" rings. When injectors rotate smoothly, tighten 2 fuel rail mounting bolts to 14 ft. lbs. (19 N.m).
- Install air intake chamber support bracket and tighten to 13 ft. lbs. (18 N.m). Connect wiring harness, protector and accelerator cable bracket. Connect fuel return hose to fuel rail.
- Connect fuel inlet pipe to fuel rail, and tighten union bolt to 22 ft. lbs. (30 N.m). Connect vacuum hoses and PCV hose. Connect battery. After installation is complete, check for fuel leaks. See CHECKING FOR FUEL LEAKS.
