Steering Gear: Disassembly
- Using Rack Housing Stand (09612-00012
), mount steering gear in vise. Remove left and right turn tubes. Loosen lock nuts on tie rod ends, and mark tie rod ends for reassembly reference. Remove tie rod ends. See Fig 1. Remove outer clips, clamps, and rack boots.
- Unstake claw washers. Remove rack ends and claw washers. Remove rack guide spring cap lock nut. Remove spring cap. Remove rack guide spring, rack guide, and seat.
- Remove rack housing cap. Remove nut, spacer, and lower bearing. Remove snap ring. Using Puller (09613-12010
), remove control valve. Remove upper bearing. Remove rack end stopper. Press out rack and oil seal. Drive out spacer and remaining oil seal.
