Power Steering Air Control Valve
Power steering pump produces maximum fluid pressure when steering wheel is turned fully to left or right and at this time, there is maximum load on the power steering pump which causes a decrease in engine idle RPM. To correct this problem, vehicles are equipped with an air control valve is mounted on the power steering pump which raises engine idle RPM whenever there is a heavy load on the power steering pump. When the piston of the air control valve is pushed by fluid pressure, the air control valve opens and the volume of air by-passing the throttle valve is increased to regulate engine idle RPM.
