Diagnosis & Repair (OBD-II Scan Tester ONLY)
- Disconnect EGR gas temperature sensor. Sensor is located on manifold between EGR valve and throttle body. Using ohmmeter, measure resistance between sensor terminals. If resistance is about 2500 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is NOT about 2500 ohms or less, replace sensor.
- Inspect circuits between EGR gas temperature sensor and ECM for short. See wiring diagram in WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Repair as needed. If circuits are okay, go to next step.
- Check operation of EGR Vacuum Switching Valve (VSV). VSV located under intake plenum cover. See SYSTEM/COMPONENT TESTS article. Replace valve as needed. If valve is okay, inspect EGR valve. Replace as needed.
- Inspect circuits for short between EGR VSV and ECM. See wiring diagram in WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Repair as needed. If circuits are okay, replace ECM and retest.
