Ignition System: Distributor: Installation

  1. Install rotor on distributor (if removed). Install distributor cap (if removed). Remove lower engine covers so crankshaft may be rotated.
  2. Rotate crankshaft pulley clockwise until groove on crankshaft pulley aligns with "0" mark on timing belt cover to position cylinder No. 1 (front cylinder at timing belt end of engine) at TDC on compression stroke. Ensure slot in camshaft is properly positioned. See Fig 1.
  3. Install NEW "O" ring on distributor housing. Coat "O" ring with engine oil. Align cutout on drive coupling with groove on distributor housing. See Fig 1.
  4. Install distributor so bolt hole on distributor flange aligns with bolt hole on cylinder head. Install and tighten distributor hold-down bolts to specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . To install remaining components, reverse removal procedure. Check ignition timing. See ADJUSTMENTS - 2.2L article.
