Fuel Rails & Fuel Injectors: Installation

  1. To install, reverse removal procedure using NEW grommets, "O" rings, insulators and gaskets. Coat "O" rings with gasoline before installing "O" rings on fuel injectors. Use twisting motion when installing fuel injectors on fuel rail.
  2. Ensure fuel injectors rotate smoothly on fuel rail. If fuel injectors fail to rotate smoothly, check for improper "O" ring installation. Ensure electrical connector on each fuel injector is facing upward.
  3. Ensure NEW insulator is installed in each fuel injector hole on intake manifold. Install fuel rail with fuel injectors on intake manifold. Loosely install fuel rail-to-intake manifold bolts.
  4. Ensure fuel injectors rotate smoothly. If fuel injectors fail to rotate smoothly, check for improper "O" ring installation. Ensure electrical connector on each fuel injector is facing upward.
  5. Tighten fuel rail-to-intake manifold bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . To install remaining components, reverse removal procedure. Tighten bolts/nuts to specification.
  6. Fill cooling system. Operate fuel pump and check for fuel leaks. See FUEL PUMP OPERATION under FUEL SYSTEM in BASIC TESTING - 2.4L article.
