Diagnosis & Repair

  1. Disconnect distributor harness connector. Using ohmmeter, measure resistance between connector terminals. See Fig 1. Resistance should be 185-275 ohms (cold pick-up) or 240-325 ohms (hot pick-up).
  2. Replace pick-up as needed. If pick-up is okay, inspect circuits between distributor and igniter, and igniter and ECM for open or short. See wiring diagram in the WIRING DIAGRAMS - 2.4L article. Repair as needed.
  3. If both circuits are okay, inspect sensor installation. If sensor is NOT okay, replace pick-up coil. If sensor is okay, replace ECM and retest. ECM is located behind right kick panel.
