Test 5, Vehicle Speed Sensor Circuit
- Vehicle speed sensor is mounted in instrument cluster. If speedometer fluctuates while driving at a steady speed, replace speedometer cable and recheck system operation. If speedometer does not fluctuate, go to next step.
- Remove instrument cluster. Disconnect 10-pin Gray connector from instrument cluster. Check for continuity between ground and 10-pin connector terminal No. 9 (White/Black wire). If continuity exists, rein-stall instrument cluster and go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair faulty ground or locate and repair open in wiring harness between ground and instrument cluster connector.
- Check vehicle speed sensor. See VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR TEST under COMPONENT TESTING. Replace sensor as necessary and recheck system operation. If sensor is okay, disconnect CC ECU connector. See Figure. Connect ohmmeter between ground and CC ECU connector terminal N o. 20. See Figure. Rotate speedometer cable shaft and observe ohmmeter. Ohmmeter should fluctuate from continuity to no continuity 4 times per speedometer cable shaft revolution. If continuity is as specified, replace CC ECU and recheck system operation. If continuity is not as specified, locate and repair open or short in speed sensor circuit between CC ECU and instrument cluster.
