Diagnosis & Repair (OBD-II Scan Tester ONLY)

  1. Disconnect EGR gas temperature sensor. Sensor is located in intake plenum. See Figure. Using ohmmeter, measure resistance between sensor terminals. If resistance is approximately 2.5 k/ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is NOT approximately 2.5 k/ohms or less, replace sensor.
  2. Inspect circuits between EGR gas temperature sensor and ECM for short. See wiring diagram in the WIRING DIAGRAMS - 2.7L article. Repair as needed. If circuits are okay, go to next step.
  3. Check operation of EGR Vacuum Switching Valve (VSV). VSV located under intake plenum cover. See appropriate procedures in the SYSTEM/COMPONENT TESTS - 2.7L article. Replace valve as needed. If valve is okay, inspect EGR valve. Replace as needed.
  4. Inspect circuits for short between EGR VSV and ECM. See wiring diagram in the WIRING DIAGRAMS - 2.7L article. Repair as needed. If circuits are okay, replace ECM and retest.
