Ignition System: Distributor: Installation

  1. Rotate accessory drive shaft clockwise until groove on crankshaft pulley aligns with "0" mark on timing chain cover to position cylinder No. 1 (front cylinder) at TDC on compression stroke (if necessary). Ensure slot in camshaft is in proper position. See Figure. Remove bolt from end of accessory drive shaft.
    CAUTION: Ensure bolt is removed from end of accessory drive shaft to prevent damage to cooling fan.

  2. Install NEW "O" ring on distributor housing. Coat "O" ring with engine oil. Align cutout on drive coupling with groove on distributor housing. See Fig 2.
  3. Install distributor, aligning center of distributor mounting flange bolt hole with bolt hole on cylinder head. Install and tighten distributor hold-down bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  table.
  4. Install Seal Packing (08826-00080) at designated areas on distributor housing. See Fig 3. Install rotor. Using NEW gasket, install distributor cap. To install remaining components, reverse removal procedure. Check ignition timing. See ADJUSTMENTS article.
