Fuel Rails & Fuel Injectors: Installation

  1. Coat NEW "O" rings with gasoline and install on fuel injector. Install NEW insulator on fuel injector.
    CAUTION: Fuel injectors must be installed on fuel rail so fuel injector electrical connector is facing the proper direction. On the 2 outer fuel injectors, ensure fuel injector electrical connector is facing inward, toward center of fuel rail. On the 2 inner fuel injectors, ensure fuel injector electrical connector is facing outward, toward each end of fuel rail.
  2. Install fuel injector on fuel rail. Ensure fuel injector electrical connector is facing the proper direction. On the 2 outer fuel injectors, fuel injector electrical connector should face inward, toward center of fuel rail. On the 2 inner fuel injectors, fuel injector electrical connector should face outward, toward each end of fuel rail.
  3. Install fuel injector covers. Tighten bolts go specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  table.
  4. To install remaining components, reverse removal procedure using NEW insulators and gaskets. Ensure spacers and insulators are installed when installing fuel rail.
  5. Tighten fuel rail-to-cylinder head bolts and fuel inlet pipe-to-fuel rail union bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  table. Operate fuel pump and check for fuel leaks. See FUEL PUMP OPERATION in BASIC TESTING article.
