Ignition System: Distributor: Removal

  1. Remove exhaust pipe heat insulator for access to distributor. Disconnect spark plug wires from distributor cap. Disconnect electrical connector at distributor.
  2. Remove necessary air hoses for access to distributor cap. Remove distributor cap and gasket. Install bolt in end of accessory drive shaft, near cooling fan. Tighten nut. See Fig 1. Bolt is used to rotate engine.

  3. Rotate accessory drive shaft clockwise until groove on crankshaft pulley aligns with "0" mark on timing chain cover to position cylinder No. 1 (front cylinder) at TDC on compression stroke. Ensure rotor is in proper position. See Figure. If rotor is not in proper position, rotate crankshaft pulley clockwise one full revolution.
  4. Remove distributor hold-down bolt and distributor. Remove "O" ring from distributor housing.
