Fuel Rails & Fuel Injectors: Installation

  1. To install, reverse removal procedure using NEW grommets, O" rings, insulators and gaskets. Coat "O" rings with gasoline before installing "O" rings on fuel injector.
  2. Install spacers and fuel injectors on cylinder head before installing fuel rail on fuel injectors. Use twisting motion on each fuel injector while pushing fuel rail onto fuel injectors.
  3. With fuel rail installed, loosely install fuel rail-to-cylinder head bolts. Ensure fuel injectors rotate smoothly. If fuel injectors do not rotate smoothly, check for improper "O" ring installation. Ensure electrical connector on each fuel injector is facing upward.
  4. Tighten fuel rail-to-cylinder head bolts and fuel inlet hose-to-fuel filter union bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  table. To install remaining components, reverse removal procedure. Tighten bolts/nuts to specification.
  5. Before installing valve cover gasket, apply sealant at camshaft bearing cap-to-cylinder head surfaces. Also apply sealant at semi-circular plug-to-cylinder head surfaces where valve cover gasket seals. Ensure grommets for valve cover are installed in original location with marking on top grommet aligned center of valve cover.
  6. Tighten valve cover nuts to specification. Operate fuel pump and check for fuel leaks. See FUEL PUMP OPERATION in BASIC TESTING article.
