Fuel Rails & Fuel Injectors: Installation

  1. To install, reverse removal procedure using NEW grommets, "O" rings and gaskets. Coat "O" ring with gasoline before installing "O" ring on fuel injector. Use twisting motion when installing fuel injector on fuel rail. Ensure the 4 spacers are installed on the intake manifold.
  2. When installing fuel rails, install fuel rails with fuel injectors on intake manifold. Loosely install fuel rail-to-intake manifold bolts.
  3. Ensure fuel injectors rotate smoothly. If fuel injectors do not rotate smoothly, check for improper "O" ring installation. Ensure electrical connector on each fuel injector is facing outward, toward the valve cover.
  4. Install fuel crossover pipe with gaskets and union bolts on front of fuel rails. Tighten fuel crossover pipe union bolts and then the fuel rail-to-intake manifold bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  table.
  5. To install remaining components, reverse removal procedure. Tighten bolt/nuts to specification.
  6. Fill cooling system. Operate fuel pump and check for fuel leaks. See FUEL PUMP OPERATION in BASIC TESTING - 3.4L article.
