Diagnosis & Repair (Using Toyota Scan Tester)

  1. Connect scan tester. See Figure. Disconnect TP sensor connector. Connect a jumper wire between terminals No. 1 (Brown wire) and No. 2 (Yellow/Black wire) at TP sensor wiring harness connector. Turn ignition on. Using scan tester, read CTP switch signal. If CTP switch signal is on, replace TP sensor and retest. If CTP switch signal is off, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Remove jumper wire. Access ECM behind glove box. Connect a jumper wire between terminal No. 16 (Brown wire) and No. 19 (Yellow/Black wire) at ECM E7 connector. See Figure. Turn ignition on. Using scan tester, read CTP switch signal. If CTP switch signal is on, check for an open in wiring harness between TP sensor and ECM. See appropriate wiring diagram in WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Repair as necessary. If CTP switch signal is off, replace ECM and retest.
