Exhaust Gas RECIRCULATION (EGR) System Test

NOTE: EGR systems contain different components depending on application. See Fig 2. When testing EGR system and components, use Illustration to determine component location.
NOTE: When performing EGR system test, it may be necessary to monitor engine RPM by using scan tool. For scan tool connections, see IDLE SPEED & MIXTURE in ADJUSTMENTS article.

Manufacturer does not list a EGR system test, only individual component testing is listed. If a problem exists in the EGR system, a Diagnostic Trouble Code P0401 will be stored in the Engine Control Module (ECM). For diagnostic trouble code diagnosis, see TESTS W/CODES article.
