Diagnosis & Repair
- Connect scan tool. See Figure. Access ECM behind passenger's side kick panel. Disconnect ECM E6 connector. See Figure or Figure. On A/T models, using an ohmmeter measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 6 (Black wire) at ECM E6 connector. On M/T models, measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 13 (Black wire) at ECM E6 connector. On all models, if resistance is infinite, go to step 3). If resistance is not infinite, go to next step.
- Check knock sensor. See SYSTEM/COMPONENT TESTS - 2.7L article. Replace knock sensor as necessary. If sensor is okay, go to next step.
- Check for open or short circuit in wiring harness between knock sensor and ECM. See appropriate wiring diagram in WIRING DIAGRAMS - 2.7L article. Repair wiring as necessary. If wiring harness is okay, substitute suspect knock sensor with known-good sensor. Clear codes.
- Start and warm engine to normal operating temperature. Retrieve codes. See SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM . If code is still present, replace ECM. If code is no longer present, replace sensor.
