Electronic Control Module ECM Power Source Circuit
- Remove glove box. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between terminal No. 1 (White/Blue wire) of ECM 22-pin harness connector E14 and terminal No. 17 (Brown wire) of ECM 24-pin harness connector E10. SeeFigure. If 9-14 volts are present, circuit is okay at this time. If symptoms are still present, perform SYMPTOM TESTS under TROUBLE SHOOTING. If voltage is not as specified, go to next step.
- Check resistance between ground and terminal No. 17 (Brown wire) of ECM 24-pin harness connector E10. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Brown wire between terminal No. 17 and ground (located at center of left inner fenderwell).
- Test EFI main relay. See EFI MAIN RELAY under COMPONENT TESTS. If relay tests okay, go to next step. If relay does not test okay, replace EFI main relay.
- Remove EFI (20-amp) fuse located in left engine compartment fuse block. Test continuity of fuse, if EFI fuse is okay, go to next step. If EFI fuse is not okay, repair short to ground in Blue/Red wire between EFI fuse and terminal No. 16 of ECM 22-pin harness connector E14. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
- Check continuity in Blue/Red wire between EFI fuse and terminal No. 5 of EFI relay. Check continuity in Blue/Red wire between terminal No. 5 of EFI main relay and terminal No. 16 of ECM 22-pin harness connector E14. See Figure. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open or short to ground in Blue/Red wire.
- Remove IGN (10-amp) fuse from left engine compartment fuse block. Test continuity of fuse. If IGN fuse is okay, go to next step. If IGN fuse is not okay, repair short to ground in Black/Blue wire between terminal IGN fuse and terminal No. 15 of ECM 17-pin harness connector E11.
- Inspect ignition switch continuity. See IGNITION SWITCH under COMPONENT TESTS. If ignition switch tests okay, repair open or short to ground between terminal No. 7 (White/Red wire) of ignition switch harness connector, AM2 fuse (30-amp), EFI (20-amp) fuse and terminal No. 5 (Blue/Red wire) of EFI relay. If ignition switch does not test okay, replace ignition switch. See appropriate STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article.
