Cruise Control Systems: Operation: Notes

Cruise control switch is a lever with a ON/OFF (main) button in the top of the switch, located on right side of steering column. Pressing cruise ON-OFF (main) switch turns system on. CRUISE indicator light in instrument cluster comes on to indicate system is on. To set desired speed, move cruise control switch downward in SET/COAST direction and release it. Desired vehicle set speed should be obtained. Pressing cruise ON-OFF switch again will turn cruise control system off.

To cancel set speed, move cruise control switch to CANCEL position, depress brake pedal or placing shift lever in Neutral. If vehicle speed decreases 10 MPH or more than set speed or vehicle speed drops to less than 25 MPH, set speed will automatically cancel. If Electronic Control Module (ECM) detects a system malfunction, set speed will automatically cancel and CRUISE indicator light will flash several times.

Moving cruise control switch in RES/ACC (resume/accelerate) direction allows vehicle to return to speed set before cancellation. Holding cruise control switch in the RES/ACC direction gradually increases vehicle set speed. Holding cruise control switch in SET/COAST direction gradually decreases vehicle set speed. If switch is moved up to RES/ACC or down to SET/COAST and released speed will change 1 MPH.
