If trunk opener main switch and trunk opener switch are okay, go to next step. If trunk opener main switch or trunk opener switch is defective, replace switch and recheck trunk opener system operation.
  2. Check wiring harness and electrical connectors between ground connection, trunk opener main switch, trunk opener switch and body Electronic Control Unit (ECU). See WIRING DIAGRAMS in KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEMS - AVALON article. Body ECU is located at driver's side of instrument panel on the fuse/relay box. See Figure. Electrical connector B4 (25-pin) and electrical connector B5 (25-pin) are located at each side of body ECU and a 12-pin electrical connector at rear of body ECU. See Figure. Trunk opener main switch may also be referred to as luggage compartment door opener main switch. Trunk opener switch may also be referred to as luggage compartment door opener switch. If wiring harness and electrical connectors are okay, go to next step. If wiring harness or electrical connector are defective, repair as necessary and recheck trunk opener system operation.
  3. Check trunk opener motor. See TRUNK OPENER MOTOR  under COMPONENT TESTS. If trunk opener motor is okay, go to next step. If trunk opener motor is defective, replace trunk opener motor and recheck trunk opener system operation.
  4. Check wiring harness and electrical connectors between trunk opener motor and body ECU. See WIRING DIAGRAMS in KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEMS - AVALON article. Trunk opener motor may also be referred to as luggage compartment door opener motor. If wiring harness and electrical connectors are okay, go to next step. If wiring harness or electrical connector are defective, repair as necessary and recheck trunk opener system operation.
  5. Check body ECU for proper voltage and input signals. See BODY ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT  under PIN VOLTAGE TESTS. If proper voltage and input signals exist, go to next step. If proper voltage or input signal does not exist, repair as necessary and recheck trunk opener system operation.
  6. Replace body ECU with a known-good body ECU and recheck trunk opener system operation. If trunk opener system operates properly, original body ECU was defective. If trunk opener system still does not operate properly, check wiring harness and electrical connectors for body ECU and trunk opener system for an intermittent problem. See WIRING DIAGRAMS in KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEMS - AVALON article. Repair wiring harness or electrical connector as necessary.
