Test No. 64: Power Window Will Not Operate, Or Auto Up Or Down Function For Power Window Does Not Operate

  1. Check ECU-B fuse (7.5-amp) and FR P/W fuse (20-amp). These fuses are located in fuse/relay box at driver's side of instrument panel. See Figure. If fuses are okay, go to next step. If any fuse is defective, repair short in wiring for appropriate fuse. See WIRING DIAGRAMS in POWER WINDOWS - CARS article. For additional wiring for power supply circuit, see POWER DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS.
  2. Note location of passenger' door Electronic Control Unit (ECU) on passenger's door. Passenger's door ECU is incorporated into the power window switch assembly. See Figure. Go to next step.
  3. Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect electrical connector at passenger's door ECU. Using voltmeter, check voltage between ground circuit at terminal No. 8 (White/Black wire) and terminals No. 12 (White/Green wire) and No. 20 (Blue wire) at electrical for passenger's door ECU. See Figure. Voltage should be 10-14 volts. If any voltage reading is not within specification, go to next step. If all voltage readings are within specification, go to step  6.
  4. Check for open in wiring harness and electrical connectors between terminal No. 8 (White/Black wire) at passenger's door ECU and ground connection. See WIRING DIAGRAMS in POWER WINDOWS - CARS article. If wiring harness and electrical connector are okay, go to next step. If wiring harness or electrical connector are defective, repair as necessary and recheck power window operation.
  5. Check wiring harness and electrical connectors between battery and terminals No. 12 (White/Green wire) and No. 20 (Blue wire) at electrical for passenger's door ECU. Repair wiring harness or electrical connector as necessary and recheck power window operation.
  6. Replace passenger's door ECU with a known-good ECU and recheck power window operation. If power windows operate properly, original passenger's door ECU was defective. If power windows still do not operate properly, check wiring harness and electrical connectors for passenger's door ECU and power windows for an intermittent problem. See WIRING DIAGRAMS in POWER WINDOWS - CARS article. Repair wiring harness or electrical connector as necessary.
