Test No. 14: Body Electronic Control Unit Does Not Operate

  1. Gain access to body ECU. Body ECU is located behind driver's side of instrument panel and contains 18-pin and 25-pin electrical connectors. See Figure. It may be necessary to remove instrument panel for access to body ECU.
  2. Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect electrical connector B5 at body ECU. See Figure. Using voltmeter, check voltage between body ground and "B" terminal (Blue/Red wire) at electrical connector B5. See Figure. Voltage should be 9-14 volts. If voltage is not within specification, reinstall electrical connector and go to next step. If voltage is within specification, reinstall electrical connector. Check body control system by performing trouble shooting procedure to check for any possible system problems. See TROUBLE SHOOTING PROCEDURE  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  3. Check DOOR fuse (15-amp). Fuse is located in fuse/relay box at driver's side of instrument panel. See Figure. If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is defective, repair short in wiring for DOOR fuse. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . For additional wiring for power supply circuit, see POWER DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS.
  4. Check wiring harness and electrical connectors between body ECU and ground connection. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . For body ECU electrical terminal identification, see Figure. If wiring harness and electrical connectors are okay, go to next step. If wiring harness or electrical connector is defective, repair as necessary and check body control system by performing trouble shooting procedure to check for any possible system problems. See TROUBLE SHOOTING PROCEDURE  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  5. Check wiring harness and electrical connectors between battery and body ECU. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . For additional power supply, see POWER DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS. If wiring harness and electrical connectors are okay, check body control system by performing trouble shooting procedure to check for any possible system problems. See TROUBLE SHOOTING PROCEDURE  under TROUBLE SHOOTING. If wiring harness or electrical connector is defective, repair as necessary and check body control system by performing trouble shooting procedure to check for any possible system problems. See TROUBLE SHOOTING PROCEDURE  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
