  1. Test drive confirmation may be performed to operate vehicle under conditions which may cause DTC to be set. When performing test drive confirmation, procedures must be performed exactly as listed or the malfunction may not be detected. If Toyota hand-held tester is available, go to next step. If Toyota hand-held tester is not available, go to step  5.
  2. Connect hand-held tester to Data Link Connector (DLC) No. 3 at driver's side of instrument panel. See Figure. Switch hand-held tester from NORMAL mode to CHECK mode.
  3. Start engine and warm engine to normal operating temperature with all accessories off. Drive vehicle at 31-40 MPH for 1-3 minutes to fully warm heated oxygen sensor and then allow engine to idle for at least one minute.
  4. Repeat step  3 for 3 consecutive times. Check operation of Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL). If MIL illuminates, malfunction exists and DTC is set. If MIL does not illuminate, malfunction does not exist.
  5. Start engine and warm engine to normal operating temperature with all accessories off. Drive vehicle at 31-40 MPH for 1-3 minutes to fully warm heated oxygen sensor and then allow engine to idle for at least one minute.
