Inspection Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. Check operation (overdrive).
    1. Drive the vehicle after the engine warms up.
    2. Check that overdrive ON - OFF occurs by an operation of the O/D switch ON - OFF.

NO  , go to ELECTRONIC CONTROLLED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION [ECT].

YES  , go to step  2.

  2. Inspect terminal voltage (OD).
    1. Remove the cruise control ECU assy with the connector still connected.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Disconnect the cruise control ECU assy connector.
    4. Measure voltage between terminal 14 (OD) of harness side connector of cruise control ECU assy and body ground. See Fig 1.

      OK:  Voltage: 10-14 V

NG  , go to step  5.

OK  , go to step  3.

  3. Inspect terminal voltage (ECT).
    1. Connect the cruise control ECU assy connector.
    2. Perform the test drive after engine warms up.
    3. Check voltage between terminal 6 (ECT), see Fig 2, of cruise control ECU assy connector and body ground when O/D switch is ON and OFF. See 2ZZ-GE: .

      OK:

      2ZZ-GE:

      O/D Switch Position Voltage
      On 8-16V
      Off Below 0.5V

OK  proceed to next circuit inspection shown on problem symptoms table. See PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE  under PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE.

NG  , go to step  4

  4. check harness and connector (between cruise control ECU assy and electronically control).
    1. Check for open and short circuit in harness and connector between cruise control ECU assy and electronically controlled transmission solenoid. See HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT ECU CONTROLLED SYSTEMS .

NO  , repair or replace harness or connector.

OK  , check and replace cruise control ECU assy. See HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT ECU CONTROLLED SYSTEMS .

  5. Check harness and connector (between cruise control ECU assy and ECM).
    1. Check for open and short circuit in harness and connector between cruise control ECU assy and ECM. See HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT ECU CONTROLLED SYSTEMS .

NG  , repair or replace harness or connector.

    OK

OK  , check and replace cruise control ECU assy. See HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT ECU CONTROLLED SYSTEMS .
