Bleeding Sequence

  1. Fill reservoir with SAE J1703 or FMVSS No.116 DOT3 brake fluid. With ignition OFF, release pressure from power supply system by depressing brake pedal at least 40 times. Turn ignition ON and ensure pump stops after 30 to 40 seconds.
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF and bleed right and left front caliper. Depress brake pedal 20 times or more for each wheel. Turn ignition ON and ensure pump motor stops.
  3. Fully open bleeder plug of right or left rear wheel cylinder and drain fluid by depressing brake pedal for three seconds. Release brake pedal and wait for pump motor to stop.
  4. Repeat previous step seven times or more. Tighten bleeder screw of rear wheel cylinder to 75 INCH lbs. (8.5 N.m). Depress brake pedal and release air from rear wheel cylinder. Repeat on other wheel cylinder. Turn ignition switch to ON and ensure pump motor has stopped.
NOTE: Perform air bleeding for both wheels on the right and then left side.
NOTE: Do not continuously drain brake fluid from bleeder plug for more than 3 seconds. When closing bleeder plug, wait until pump motor stops if it is operating.
  5. Fully open bleeder plug of front left caliper and drain fluid while depressing brake pedal for 3 seconds. Release brake pedal and wait for pump motor to stop. Repeat previous step four times. Tighten bleeder plug of front left caliper to 75 INCH lbs. (8.5 N.m). While depressing brake pedal release air from front left caliper. Ensure pump motor has stopped.
  6. With ignition switch OFF, connect Toyota hand held tester to DLC3. See Fig 1. Turn ignition switch to ON and select AIR BLEEDING on tester. With brake pedal depressed, turn SRRR solenoid ON with tester. Turn SRRR solenoid OFF with tester and release brake pedal. Ensure pump motor stops after 20 seconds.
  7. Repeat step  5 three times. Turn ignition switch to OFF and disconnect tester from DLC3. Clear DTC.
  8. Ensure brake fluid in reservoir is full. Turn ignition switch OFF and depress brake pedal at least 40 times. Fill brake fluid reservoir to "MAX" line.
