Diagnostic Procedure

- Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Access air bag sensor assembly and disconnect left harness connector. See AIR BAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Access left side head impact air bag module and disconnect harness connector. See HEAD IMPACT AIR BAG MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Measure resistance between Yellow/Orange wire and Yellow/Violet wire on harness side of left side head impact air bag squib harness connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If resistance is less than one ohm, go to next step. If resistance is more than one ohm, repair or replace harness or connector between left side head impact air bag module and air bag sensor assembly.
- Reconnect air bag sensor assembly left harness connector. Connect jumper wire between Yellow/Orange wire and Yellow/Violet wire on harness side of left side head impact air bag squib harness connector. Connect negative battery cable. Wait at least 2 seconds. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Wait at least 20 seconds. Clear DTCs. See CLEARING DTCS under DIAGNOSTICS. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Wait at least 20 seconds. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Wait at least 20 seconds. Retrieve DTCs. See RETRIEVING DTCS under DIAGNOSTICS. If DTC 88/B1166 is not displayed, go to next step. If DTC 88/B1166 is displayed, replace air bag sensor assembly.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect negative battery cable. Wait at least 90 seconds. Reconnect left side head impact air bag squib harness connector. Connect negative battery cable. Wait at least 2 seconds. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Wait at least 20 seconds. Clear DTCs. See CLEARING DTCS under DIAGNOSTICS. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Wait at least 20 seconds. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Wait at least 20 seconds. Retrieve DTCs. See RETRIEVING DTCS under DIAGNOSTICS. If DTC 88/B1166 is not displayed, system is functioning properly at this time. Check for intermittent air bag system fault. See AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT INTERMITTENT . If DTC 88/B1166 is displayed, replace left side head impact air bag module.
