Input Shaft (MAINSHAFT): Reassembly
- Install clutch hub and shifting keys to No. 2 hub sleeve. See Fig 6. Ensure key spring end-gaps are not in-line.
- Apply multipurpose grease to needle bearings. Install bearing in 3rd gear. Place synchronizer ring on 3rd gear, and align ring slots with shifting keys. Using a press, install 3rd gear and No. 2 hub sleeve. See Fig 3.
- Select thickest snap ring that fits into groove, which will allow minimum axial play (thrust clearance). See Fig 7. See SNAP RING APPLICATION CHART NO. 1 table. Install selected snap ring.
- Check 3rd gear thrust clearance. Standard clearance is .004-.014" (.10-.35 mm). Install spacer. Place synchronizer ring on 4th gear and align ring slots with shifting keys. Install 4th gear. Using a press, install on ball bearing. See Fig 3.
- Select thickest snap ring that fits into groove which will allow minimum axial play thrust clearance. See Fig 8. See SNAP RING APPLICATION CHART NO. 2 table. Install selected snap ring.
- Check 4th gear thrust clearance. Standard clearance is .004-.022" (.10-.55 mm). Using a press, install input shaft front bearing inner race.
