Inspection Procedure

HINT:

  1. Connect OBD II scan tool or hand-held tester, and read throttle valve opening percentage. 

    PREPARATION: 

    1. Connect the hand-held tester or the OBD II scan tool to the DLC3.
    2. Select the item "DIAGNOSIS/ENHANCED OBD II/DATA LIST/ETCS/THROTTLE POS".

    CHECK: 

    Read the throttle valve opening percentage.

    RESULT:

    1. B: Check for intermittent problems/(See  PRE-CHECK  ). 
    2. C: Go to next step. 
    3. A: Go to next step. 
  2. Check throttle position sensor. 

    PREPARATION: 

    Disconnect the T2 throttle position sensor connector.

    CHECK: 

    Measure the resistance between the terminals of the throttle position sensor.

    OK:

    NG: Replace throttle position sensor. 

    OK: Go to next step. 

  3. Check for open and short in harness and connector between ECM and throttle position sensor. 

    PREPARATION: 

    1. Reconnect the T2 throttle position sensor connector.
    2. Disconnect the E6 ECM connector.

    CHECK: 

    Measure the resistance between the terminals of the E6 ECM connector.

    OK:

    CHECK: 

    Measure the resistance between the terminals of the E6 ECM connector.

    OK:

    NG: Repair or replace harness or connector. 

    OK: Replace ECM (See  COMPONENTS  ). 

  4. Check throttle position sensor. 

    PREPARATION: 

    Disconnect the T2 throttle position sensor connector.

    CHECK: 

    Measure the resistance between the terminals of the throttle position sensor.

    OK:

    NG: Replace throttle position sensor. 

    OK: Go to next step. 

  5. Check for open and short in harness and connector between ECM and throttle position sensor. 

    PREPARATION: 

    1. Disconnect the E6 ECM connector.
    2. Disconnect the T2 throttle position sensor connector.

    CHECK: 

    Measure the resistance between the wire harness side connectors.

    OK: 

    Standard: (Check for open):

    SPECIFIED CONDITION

    Tester Connection Specified Condition
    E2 (T2-2) - E2 (E5-28) Below 1 Ω

    NG: Repair or replace harness or connector. 

    OK: Replace ECM (See  COMPONENTS  ).
