Inspection Procedure

1. Check if the stop lights go on and off normally when the brake pedal is depressed and released.

NG: Repair or replace stop lamp switch circuit. 

OK: Go to next step. 

PREPARATION: 

Turn the ignition switch ON.

CHECK: 

Select the item "DIAGNOSIS/ENHANCED OBD II/DATA LIST/ALL/STOP LIGHT SW" and read its value displayed on the hand-held tester or OBD II scan tool.

OK:

OK: Check for intermittent problems (See  PRE-CHECK  ). 

NG: Go to next step. 

CHECK: 

Measure the resistance between terminals when the switch is ON and OFF.

OK:

NG: Replace stop lamp switch. 

OK: Go to next step. 

PREPARATION: 

1. Disconnect the S8 stop lamp switch connector. 
2. Disconnect the E5 ECM connector. 

CHECK: 

Measure the resistance between the wire harness side connectors.

OK: 

Standard (Check for open):

Standard (Check for short):

NG: Repair or replace harness or connector. 

OK: Replace ECM (See  COMPONENTS  ).
