Diagnosis & Repair

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Lexus LX 470. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. If other DTCs are displayed, diagnose and repair those DTCs first and retest system. If only DTC P0134 and/or P0154 are displayed, go to next step.
  2. Check connection of PCV piping. Repair as necessary. If okay, go to next step.
  3. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC) No. 3. See Figure. Start engine and warm to operating temperature. Read voltage output of the heated oxygen sensors when the engine is suddenly raced. Perform quick racing to 4000 RPM 3 times using the accelerator pedal. If heated oxygen sensor outputs a RICH signal (0.45 volts or more) at least once, go to step  10. If not, go to next step.
  4. Check for open or short in wiring between ECM and heated oxygen sensor (bank 1, 2 sensor 1). See ENGINE PERFORMANCE in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL. Repair wiring as necessary. If wiring is okay, go to next step.
  5. Check whether misfire has occurred or not by monitoring DTC and data list. Perform troubleshooting for misfire as necessary. If okay, go to next step.
  6. Ensure fuel filler cap, PCV system and all other air induction system components are intact and operating properly. If problem exists, repair as necessary. If problem does not exist, go to next step.
  7. Check fuel pressure. See FUEL SYSTEM in BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES article. If fuel pressure is not within specification, repair as necessary. If fuel pressure is within specification, go to next step.
  8. Check fuel injectors. See FUEL SYSTEM in SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING - LX470 article. If problem exists, repair as necessary. If problem does not exist, go to next step.
  9. Check gas leakage in exhaust system. Repair as necessary. If okay, replace heated oxygen sensor.
  10. Perform test drive confirmation, then go to next step. See TEST DRIVE CONFIRMATION  under DTC P0130, DTC P0150, DTC P2195, DTC P2196, DTC P2197 OR DTC P2198.
  11. Clear and recheck for DTCs. If DTC P0133 and/or P0153 is displayed again, replace ECM. If DTC P0133 or P0153 is not displayed again, problem is intermittent or vehicle possibly ran out of fuel in the past.
