Circuit Description
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Lexus LX 470. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
Brake switch may also be referred to as stop light switch.
When brake pedal is depressed, stop light switch sends a signal to ECM. When ECM receives this signal, it cancels cruise control. A fail-safe function is provided so cruise control is cancelled normally when there is a malfunction in stop light signal circuit. Cancellation occurs when battery positive voltage is applied to terminal STP or ST1-. When brake is on, battery positive voltage is applied to terminal STP and ST1- of ECM via stop fuse and stop light switch. Then, ECM turns cruise control off. Even if harness connected to terminal STP or ST1- has an open circuit, cruise control will be turned off. DTC will set when stop light switch does not turn off even once vehicle is driven. Possible causes are:
- Short circuit in stop light switch signal circuit.
- Faulty stop light switch.
- Faulty ECM.
