Clutch & Pinion Gear Test

  1. Check the gear teeth on the planetary gear, internal gear and clutch assembly for wear or damage. If damaged, replace the planetary gear or starter housing with clutch assembly. If damaged, also check the drive plate ring gear for wear or damage.
  2. Check the clutch pinion gear. Rotate the clutch pinion gear clockwise, and check that it turns freely. Try to rotate the clutch pinion gear counter clockwise and check that it locks. See Fig 1. If necessary, replace the starter housing with clutch assembly.
