Test Drive Confirmation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Lexus RX 300. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: If conditions in test drive confirmation procedure are not strictly followed, detection of malfunction will not be possible.
NOTE: Because Lexus scan tool has CHECK mode feature, two-trip detection logic is disabled and problem can be isolated in one test drive. OBD-II scan tool does not have this feature. Therefore, two test drives are necessary to confirm repairs.
  1. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC) No. 3. See Figure. If using Lexus scan tool, switch scan tool to CHECK mode. Go to next step.
  2. Start and warm engine to normal operating temperature with all accessories off. Drive vehicle for 3-5 minutes at 38-75 MPH, with engine speed at 1400-3200 RPM. If using Lexus scan tool and malfunction still exists, MIL will illuminate. If using OBD-II scan tool, repeat this step. If malfunction still exists, MIL will illuminate.
