Power Steering Gear: Installation

  1. Install grommet and bracket  .
  2. Install PS gear assembly  .
    1. Install the PS gear assembly with the gear assembly set bolt.
      NOTE: Bolts and nuts A-D are called out in Fig 1.

      Torque: 165 N.m (1,700 kgf.cm, 123 ft.lbf)

    2. Install the gear assembly set bolt, washer and nut.

      Torque: 130 N.m (1,350 kgf.cm, 96 ft.lbf) 

    3. Install the stud bolt to the bracket.

      Torque: 20 N.m (200 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lbf) 

    4. Install the bolt and nut to the bracket.

      Torque: 165 N.m (1,700 kgf.cm, 123 ft.lbf) 

  3. Connect pressure feed and return tubes  .

    Using SST, connect the tubes. SST 09023-12700.

    Torque: 32 N.m (326 kgf.cm, 27 ft.lbf)

    NOTE:
    • Use a torque wrench with a fulcrum length of 300 mm (11.81 in.).
    • This torque value is effective in case that SST is parallel to a torque wrench.
  4. Connect the clamp plate and install the bolt  .

    Torque: 29 N.m (290 kgf.cm, 21 ft.lbf) 

  5. Connect No. 2 intermediate shaft assembly  . See step  5 under INSTALLATION.
  6. Connect RH and LH tie rod ends  . See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION .
  7. Position front wheel facing straight ahead  .
    NOTE: Do it with the front of the vehicle jacked up.
  8. Center spiral cable  . See step  12 under INSTALLATION.
  9. Install steering wheel  .
    1. Align the matchmarks on the wheel and steering column main shaft.
    2. Temporarily tighten the wheel set nut.
    3. Connect the connector.
  10. Bleed the power steering system  . See BLEEDING POWER STEERING FLUID .
  11. Check steering wheel center point  .
  12. Torque steering wheel set nut  .

    Torque: 50 N.m (500 kgf.cm, 35 ft.lbf) 

  13. Install steering wheel pad  . See step  14 under INSTALLATION.
  14. Check front wheel alignment  . See SPECIFICATIONS & PROCEDURES .
