Inspection Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Toyota Prius. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Check voltage between terminals S5TS and TS of A/C amplifier connector.

    Preparation

    1. Remove center cluster module control with connectors still connected.
    2. Turn ignition switch ON.

Check:  Measure voltage between terminals S5TS and TS of A/C amplifier connector when the solar sensor is subjected to an electric light, and when the sensor is covered by a cloth.

If OK  , see Fig 2.

NOTE: As the inspection light is gradually moved away from the sensor, the voltage increases.

    1. NG:  Go to step  2.
    2. If OK  , proceed to next circuit inspection shown on problem symptoms table. See PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE . However, if DTC 21 is displayed, check and replace A/C amplifier.
  2. Check solar sensor.

PREPARATION:  Remove solar sensor. See step 1 of INSPECTION .

    Check

    1. Cover the sensor by a cloth.
    2. NOTE: Connect positive (+) lead of ohmmeter to terminal 2 and negative (-) lead to terminal 1 of the solar sensor.

NOTE: As the electric light is moved gradually away from the sensor, the resistance increases.
    3. Measure resistance between terminals 1 and 2 of solar sensor connector.

If OK  , resistance : infinity Ω (No continuity).

PREPARATION:  Remove the cloth from the solar sensor and subject the sensor to electric light.

Check:  Measure resistance. If OK  , resistance : Below 10 kΩ (Continuity).

    1. NG:  Replace solar sensor.
    2. If OK  , go to step  3.
  3. Check harness and connector between A/C amplifier and solar sensor  . See HOW TO USE THE DIAGNOSTIC CHART AND INSPECTION .
    1. NG:  Repair or replace harness or connector.
    2. If OK  . check and replace A/C amplifier.
