Inspection Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Toyota Highlander. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Initial condition that the customizing function by TOYOTA hand-held tester is not chosen is shown.
  1. Vehicle's Initial Condition (Condition Of Wireless Control Possible) 
    1. No key in the ignition Key cylinder.
    2. All doors closed (door open indicator off).
    3. All doors locked.
NOTE: The switch described in this text is a LOCK/UNLOCK switch for transmitting, and it is built in the door control transmitter.
  1. Check Transmitter Battery Simply 
    1. Check that the LED of the transmitter lights up 3 times when the switch has been pressed 3 times.
      NOTE: If the LED does not light up when the switch has been pressed 3 times or more, it may be caused by the battery dead. Replace the battery with a new or normal one, and then check doors will be locked or unlocked by the standard operation.
      NOTE: Standard operation means to press and hold the transmitter switch for 1 second, facing the transmitter to the vehicle, in 1 m away from the driver's seat outside handle in the right direction.
    1. NG: Replace Transmitter (Lithium) Battery 
    2. OK: Go To Next Step  .
  2. Confirm Room Lamp On 
    1. Check that the room lamp comes on.
      NOTE: When the lamp does not come on, proceed with the self-diagnostic mode after repairing the room lamp.
  3. Enter Into The Self Diagnostic Mode 
    1. Enter into self-diagnostic mode by operating the ignition switch lock cylinder.
      1. Insert the Key into the ignition switch lock cylinder under the vehicles initial condition, and then operate the ignition switch assembly OFF to ON to OFF once within 5 seconds after the Key is pulled out.
      2. Within 30 seconds assembly OFF to ON to OFF 9 times.
      NOTE: Mode returns to the normal mode if even one of the above conditions has been met.
      • operation of the ignition switch assembly OFF to ON will finish the self-diagnostic mode.
      • Do not carry out lock/ unlock operations during the self-diagnostic mode.
    2. Check that it has entered into the self-diagnostic mode by blinks of the room lamp.
    1. NG: Go To Step   8 
    2. OK: Go To Next Step  .
  4. Check By Self-Diagnostic Mode 
    1. Inspect output of the diagnosis when the door control transmitter switch has been pressed (Check of diagnosis output can be made by output of the room light).
      NOTE:
      • In case of a reception of the normal wave of the LOCK/UNLOCK switch (room light blinks) and no diagnosis outputs (room light off), go to step A.
      • In case of discord of discrimination code (room lights on), go to step B.

    1. A : Go to next step  .
    2. B : Go to step   7 
  5. The Wave Reaching Rang Check 
    1. Check that diagnosis will be output when a new or normal door control transmitter switch for a same type vehicle, has been pressed.
      NOTE:
      • Room light continuously blinks while the switch is pressed.
      • Standard operation means to press and hold the transmitter switch for 1 second, facing the transmitter to the vehicle, in 1 m away from the driver's door.
    1. OK: Replace Transmitter Sub-Assy Module Set Door Control. 
    2. NG: Go To Next Step  .
  6. Check Door Control Receiver 
    1. Check the DOME fuse. (See FUSES & CIRCUIT BREAKERS )
    2. Disconnect the connector on the control receiver.
    3. Check the connector on the harness side.

    1. OK: Replace Door Control Receiver 
    2. NG: Repair Or Replace Fuse Or Wire Harness And Connector  .
  7. Registration Of Recognition Code 
    1. Check that it is possible to enter into the rewrite mode or add mode for the discrimination code registration, and that a discrimination code can be registered, as well.
    1. OK: Normal Function Check 
    2. NG: Replace Multiplex Network Body ECU  .
  8. Confirm Input Method Of Self Diagnostic Mode 
    1. OK: Go To Next Step  .
    2. NG: Go To Step   3  .
  9. Inspect Unlock Warning Switch Assembly (See  KEY UNLOCK WARNING SWITCH  ) 
    1. OK: Replace Multiplex Network Body ECU 
    2. NG: Replace Unlock Warning Switch Assy
