Inspection Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Toyota Camry Solara. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (STEREO COMPONENT AMPLIFIER ASSY - SPEAKER ASSY) 
    1. Disconnect the connectors shown in Fig 1 on the left from the stereo component amplifier assy and speakers.
    2. Measure the resistance between the speakers and the stereo component amplifier assy to check for an open circuit in the wire harness.

      Standard: Below 1 Ω 

    3. Measure the resistance between the speakers and body ground to check for a short circuit in the wire harness.

      Standard: 10 kΩ or higher

    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 
    2. OK: Go to Next Step. 
  2. CHECK VEHICLE TYPE 
    1. Choose type to be inspected.
    VEHICLE

    Type Proceed to
    Convertible A
    Coupe B
    1. B: Go to step   4 
    2. A: Go to Next Step. 
  3. INSPECT WOOFER BOX SPEAKER ASSY NO.1 
    1. Resistance check.
      1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in SPECIFIED CONDITION  .

      Standard: 

      SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester connection Condition Specified condition
      1 - 3 Always 0.81 to 1.61Ω
      2 - 4 Always 0.81 to 1.61Ω

    NOTE: The speaker should not be removed for checking. 
    1. NG: REPLACE WOOFER BOX SPEAKER ASSY (SEE  AUDIO & VISUAL SYSTEM  ) 
    2. OK: Go to Next Step. 
  4. INSPECT FRONT NO.1 SPEAKER ASSY 
    1. Resistance check.
      1. Measure the resistance between the terminals of the speaker.
      NOTE: The speaker should not be removed for checking. 

      Standard: 

      Coupe: 3 to 4 Ω 

      Convertible: 3.5 to 4.5 Ω 

    1. NG: REPLACE FRONT NO.1 SPEAKER ASSY (SEE  REPLACEMENT  ) 
    2. OK: Go to Next Step. 
  5. INSPECT FRONT NO.2 SPEAKER ASSY 
    1. Check that malfunction disappears when another speaker in good condition is installed.

      OK: Malfunction disappears. 

    HINT:

    • Connect all the connectors to the speakers.
    • When there is a possibility that either right or left front speaker is defective, inspect by interchanging the right one and the left one.
    1. OK: REPLACE FRONT NO.2 SPEAKER ASSY (SEE  REPLACEMENT  ) 
    2. NG: Go to Next Step. 
  6. INSPECT REAR SPEAKER ASSY 
    1. Resistance check.
      1. Measure the resistance between the terminals of the speaker.
      NOTE: The speaker should not be removed for checking. 

      Standard: 

      Coupe: 1.75 to 2.75 Ω 

      Convertible: Approximately 2.4 Ω 

    1. NG: REPLACE REAR SPEAKER ASSY (SEE  REPLACEMENT  ) 
    2. OK: PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN IN PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE (SEE  PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE  )
