Diagnostic Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Toyota Avalon. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect body control ECU 25-pin electrical harness connector B4. See Figure. Locate center air bag sensor assembly under center of instrument panel, on floorpan tunnel. Disconnect Yellow center air bag sensor assembly 28-pin electrical harness connector C6. Using DVOM, check Blue wire between body control ECU 25-pin electrical harness connector B4 terminal No. 19 and Yellow center air bag sensor assembly 28-pin electrical harness connector C6 terminal No. 4 for open or short circuit condition. If circuit is okay, go to next step. If circuit is not okay, repair Blue wire between body control ECU and center air bag sensor assembly. See SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINTS in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
- Substitute known-good body control ECU and recheck for DTCs. If DTC B1243/43 is still present, replace center air bag sensor assembly. If DTC B1243/43 is not present, install new body control ECU.
- After repairs have been made, perform confirmation test. See CONFIRMATION TEST under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
