Diagnosis & Repair

  1. Disconnect park/neutral position switch 9-pin connector. See Fig 1. Check continuity between each terminal when shift lever is moved to each position. See PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH CONTINUITY CHECK  table. If continuity is to specification, go to next step. If continuity is not to specification, replace park/neutral position switch.

    P 1-3, 6-9
    R 2-3
    N 3-5, 6-9
    D, 4 3-7
    3 3-4
    2, L 3-8
  2. Reconnect park/neutral position switch connector. Disconnect shift lock control unit assembly 10-pin connector. See Fig 2. Check continuity between each terminal when shift lever is moved to each position. See SHIFT LOCK CONTROL ECU SUB-ASSEMBLY  table. If continuity is present, go to next step. If continuity is not present, replace shift lock control ECU sub-assembly.

    Shift Position Tester Connection Specified Value
    D 2-10 (AT4-NSSD) No Continuity
    4 2-10 (AT4-NSSD) Continuity
    2 3-6 (NSSL-ATL) No Continuity
    L 3-6 (NSSL-ATL) Continuity
  3. Reconnect shift lock control unit assembly connector. Disconnect ECM connectors. Turn ignition switch ON and measure voltage between terminals P, R, N, D, 4, 3, 2, and L of ECM and terminal E1 when shift lever is shifted to specified position. See Fig 3. See PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH/ECM VOLTAGE CHECK  table. Ensure battery voltage is present at each terminal. If voltage is to specification, replace ECM. If voltage is not to specification, repair or replace harness or connector.
