Circuit Description
Throttle position sensor is mounted on the throttle body and consists of 2 sensors used to detect the throttle opening angle and malfunctions of the throttle position sensor. The voltage applied to terminals VTA and VTA2 of the ECM change between zero volts and 5 volts in proportion to the opening angle of the throttle valve. The VTA1 signal is used to indicate the actual throttle valve opening angle for engine control. VTA2 signal is used to indicate information about the opening angle for detecting a malfunction. The ECM determines the current opening angle of the throttle valve from these input signals. ECM controls the throttle motor to make the throttle valve angle proper in response to driving conditions. If this DTC is set, the ECM shuts down the power for the throttle motor and the electromagnetic clutch. The throttle valve is fully closed by the return spring, although the opening angle of the throttle valve can be controlled by the accelerator pedal through the throttle cable.
