Diagnostic Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Toyota Avalon. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Clear DTCs from Engine Control Module (ECM). See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Insert all available ignition keys in ignition lock cylinder and check whether engine will start. Recheck for DTCs.
  2. If any ignition key does not start the engine and DTC B2795 is reset, go to next step. If all ignition keys start the engine, there is a possibility that the unregistered ignition key has been previously inserted into ignition lock cylinder and ECM is operating normally. Check with customer to verify ignition key usage.
  3. Once ignition key is found that does not start the engine and causes DTC B2795 to be reset, ignition key must be registered. See REGISTRATION OF ADDITIONAL MASTER KEY  or REGISTRATION OF ADDITIONAL SUB-KEY  under PROGRAMMING. After repairs have been made, perform confirmation test. See CONFIRMATION TEST  under SYSTEM TESTS.
