System Operation Check

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Toyota Camry. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

  1. AIR BAG warning light

Turn ignition switch to ON position. If AIR BAG warning light illuminates for about 6 seconds and then goes off, system is functioning properly. If AIR BAG warning light illuminates and does not go off or flashes, Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) is stored in air bag sensor assembly memory. Go to RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)  under DIAGNOSTICS. If AIR BAG warning light responds in any other way, go to DIAGNOSTIC TESTS .

  1. Passenger-side air bag on/off light

Turn ignition switch to ON position. Passenger-side air bag on/off light should illuminate for about 4 seconds and then go off for about 2 seconds. About 6 seconds after ignition switch is first turned to ON position, passenger-side air bag indicator light will be on or off, depending on condition of front passenger occupant classification system. See IDENTIFYING FRONT PASSENGER OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM INDICATOR LIGHT CONDITIONS  table.
